May 10th Half Day for Students
In order to help allow staff to be better prepared for school emergencies, our staff will be attending a ½ day training put on by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Dept. Because of that training, the Ione School Board has approved an early release for students (at noon) on Thursday May 10th. IMPORTANT note… buses will still be running at their normal time (3:35) that day. You are welcome to pick up your student(s) at noon, or allow them to go home early, or if you need them to stay at school until the normal bus times at 3:35 we will are making arrangements to allow them to be supervised until the normal school day is over. We will have activities like movies, outside/inside games, games in classrooms, etc.). Please call Mr. Marshall (541-422-7131) if you have any questions or concerns.
Two New Teachers for 18/19 School Year in Ione
Mary will be joining our Elementary School team of teachers this fall teaching 3rd grade. Mary is a 2012 Ione graduate, and the granddaughter of Betty Rietmann, daughter of Joe and Donna Rietmann. For the past two years Mary has been a very successful 1st grade teacher in Corvallis, and a very successful 2nd grade teacher in Hermiston. Mary wanted everyone to know… “It has always been my dream and intention to return to Ione to teach. I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to the community that has supported and encouraged me to pursue my passion from a young age.” We are thrilled to welcome Mary home.
We are also very excited to welcome Brook Baker to our teaching team at Ione Community Schools as well. Brook will be teaching Music for us next year (18/19 school year), and she comes to us with a wealth of experience, as she has been the music teacher in Hermiston’s Armand Larive Middle School for the past 15 years. Brook will be bringing her daughter (she is going to be a 1st grader), and son (he is going to be a 5th grader) with her as she starts her job here in Aug. Brook says… “I’m so excited to work with the students and community of Ione. I look forward to getting to know the staff, students, and parents and sharing my love of music.
Paul has been teaching our 4th graders this year, is going to take over the Spanish and ELL program in Ione that Karen Holland (who is retiring) has been teaching for some very many years. Paul is very fluent in Spanish, and had taught in the Dominican Republic before joining our team here.
