Scholarships and Financial Aid

Fill out your FAFSA as soon as possible! See Mr. Rosenberg if you need help.

Multiple scholarships are available through the Oregon Office of Student Access and Completion and Scholars App. The annual final deadline is March 1. Most applicants require the FAFSA, so do that first. Here's a youtube video on how to fill it out.

The following local scholarships are usually offered every year. Specific due dates and links will be added here as they become available.

AES Engineering Scholarship - Due October 5 2020

Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by an evaluation of the essays that are submitted.

Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility.

You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.

Association of Computer Professionals in Education (ACPE) - Due: February 28, 2020

Students must have "demonstrated high interest and innovative use of technology" in high school and plan to get at least a two-year degree in a technology-related field. For more information and details, click here.

Bank of Eastern Oregon - Due: May 1, 2019

The student must be planning to enroll in agriculture or business. Judging will be done on scholarship, leadership, & citizenship. The bank reserves the right to select any deserving candidate. Twenty (20) $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from high schools in Heppner, Ione, Arlington, Athena, Condon, Spray, Fossil, Mithcell, Boardman, Irrigon, Burns, Crane, John Day, Long Creek, Monument, Dayville, Moro, Prairie City, Enterprise, Wallowa, & Joseph. Barbara Lotze Scholarship - Due December 1, 2019

The AAPT Board of Directors offers scholarships for future high school physics teachers. These scholarships, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, are available only to U.S. citizens attending U.S. schools.

Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. Successful applicants receive a stipend of up to $2,000 and a complimentary AAPT Student Membership for one year. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

BMCC 2019-20 Foundation Scholarship Application - Due: March 4, 2020

High School seniors graduating in 2019, who will be attending BMCC in the academic year 2019-20 are elgible to fill out this application. The successful recipients will receive awards from $500 to $1,500 for tuition and books at BMCC. Applications can be downloaded here.

Bob and Betty Rietmann Scholarship - Due: April 1, 2020

This scholarship is for students graduating from Ione High School after at least two years of attendance there. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded at Ione High School graduation. Funds will be released upon receipt of a transcript following the first term/semester of attendance at an accredited college, university, or technical college showing a GPA of 2.5 or better, and documentation of enrollment for a second term/semester at the same school. City of Ione Scholarship - Due: May 14, 2019

A $500 scholarship will be given to one Ione graduating senior student who plans on attending a trade school, community college, or a four year college or university. Please submit a cover letter detailing your involvement in the Ione community and at least one letter of reference directly to Kim Carter at City Hall. 

Coach Del LaRue Scholarship - Due: April 2, 2020

This fund awards one $1,000 scholarship to a college-bound Ione High School Senior based on demonstrated academic achievement, community involvement and with preference given to students who have participated in the Ione High School Track Program.

Students must be continuing their education at a Community College, Trade School, or Four-Year College or University. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 accumulated GPA, attended Ione High School all four years of high school and shown involvement in community activities.

Applications will be accepted and awarded by the South Morrow County Scholarship Inc Board of Directors using their Common Local Scholarship Application Process.

Turn in your completed application to Mrs. McElligott BEFORE the 3:30 PM deadline, and they will all be submitted at once to the scholarship committee.

Community Counseling Solutions - Due March 31, 2020

We are pleased to invite graduation seniors who are seeking a career in psychology, counseling, school counseling. social work, or nursing to apply for a CCS scholarship. Up tp six (6) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each year and are renewable for three additional years, for a four-year total of $4,000. To apply, click here.

The Donald (Deacon) Hawkins Scholarship Fund/Pendleton Round-Up Foundation - Due: March 31, 2019

The Donald Hawkins Education Fund in collaboration with the Pendleton Round-Up Foundation is offering scholarships to individuals planning to attend Oregon State University. Two scholarships of $2,000.00 each will be made available to students. All fields of study will be considered as well as financial need, extra-curricular activities and service to others. Elks Legacy Scholarship - Due January 31, 2020

Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Foundation will offer a total of up to 300 awards in the 2020 contest.

ELKS National Foundation MVP Scholarship - Due: November 15, 2019

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2020 competition.

  • Male and female students compete separately
  • Ranging from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 2020 500 national winners in late April 2020. (Many local Lodges, districts and state Elks associations award their own scholarships through this program. These scholarships are not to be confused with the 500 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships.)

The 20 top finalists will participate in an all expenses paid Leadership Weekend in Chicago during which they’ll interview with the national judges. These 20 finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program - January 3, 2020

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.

Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support.

Happy Canyon Foundation Scholarship - Due: March 31, 2020

The criteria used to be used to select recipients for the Happy Canyon Foundation Scholarship includes Happy Canyon involvement and participation, scholastic achievement, financial need, educational goals, service to community, and participation in extra-curricular activities. Heppner Elks Buchanan Memorial Scholarship - Due: April 30, 2018

This schoalrship is only for the High School Seniors planning on attending a trade school or Jr./Senior college next year. Please remember that in order to qualify for this scholarship you must have a parent, grandparent, step-parent, or step-grandparent that is a Paid-In-Full Member of the Heppner Lodge #358. Holly Rebekah Lodge Lexington, Oregon Scholarship: Due: April 15, 2018

Applicant must be a graduating senior from the Heppner and Ione areas. Applicant needs to intend to be enrolled in a recognized, established and appropriate Trade or Voacational school (for example: Beauty College, Mechanic, Lineman, Business, Barber). Click here to download application.

Horatio Alger Scholarships - Due: October 25th, 2020

As one of the nation's largest need-based college scholarship programs in the country, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need.

The Ione American Legion and Auxiliary Scholarship - Due: May 15, 2018

The Ione American Legion and Auxiliary is again offering a scholarship to a graduating Senior to be used in pursuit of your college education. The dollar amount is variable based on the local Legion fundraiser and donations. The 2018 winner will be determined by a vote of the Ione Legion membership and announced on graduation night. It will be payable to you, for your second term of college, or other accredited education to include trade schools etc. if you have passed four first 12 or more credit hours. Ione Volunteer Fireman's Scholarship - Due May 15, 2018 

The Ione Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship Program is open to any Ione High School Senior praparing to enter a Community College or a Four Year College or University. The scholarship is $200 a year for two years. Click here to download application.

The James Alan Cox Foundation Scholarship - Due November 15, 2019

Founded in memory of James Alan Cox, a television photojournalist, The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists aims to provide financial support to student photographers of high school and college age. Through a variety of funding, including equipment purchases and scholarships for college and technical school classes, the foundation’s mission is to expand educational and developmental opportunities for student photographers demonstrating interest, talent and financial need.

Lexington Grange Scholarship - Due April 15, 2019 

The Lexington Grange is offering a $400 scholarship for seniors graduating from Ione Community School that plan to attend college or a trade school. The application is due by April 15, turned in to Mrs. McElligott, Mr. Rosenberg, or the office. To download the application click here

Math Education Scholarship Award (MESA) - Due March 1, 2018

Eastern Oregon University offers a $2,000-$4,000 renewable scholarship to students planning on becoming math teachers. Students must have a 3.25 GPA. Applications are available here. Please note that the original due date of February 1 has been extended to March 1.

The McGregor Company Scholarship - Due: March 27, 2020

This program has been developed specifically for high school seniors, graduating in 2016 within our market area in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon who will be entering college in an agricultural field of study. The McGregor Company will offer up to three individual $1,000 scholarships upon the verification of enrollment in either an academic or vocational college. Click here to download application.

Mid Columbia Producers - Due: April 1, 2020

Each year, Mid Columbia Producers, Inc. (MCP) awards multiple scholarships of $1500.00 to qualified applicants in memory of former MCP General Manager, Raleigh T. Curtis. In keeping with the attributes that Raleigh exhibited, special consideration is given to the community service, generosity and work ethic of the applicants. The awards have no financial qualifications. To qualify for these cash awards, applicants must be a high school senior or undergraduate at an accredited university or trade school. The applicant must be an American citizen, and must be a child or grandchild of a current MCP member or full time MCP employee with a minimum of of one (1) year of full time service. National Space Club and Foundation Keynote Scholarship - Due December 2, 2019

Provided to a high school senior, undergraduate or graduate student with definite plans to pursue a career in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Since 2013, The National Space Club and Foundation has offered the opportunity for a student to give the keynote address at the National Space Club and Foundation's annual Goddard Memorial Dinner, one of the space industry's most prestigious gatherings. The student must intend to pursue a career in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields, be academically strong and excel in public speaking.

In addition to speaking at the Goddard Memorial Dinner, the individual selected will also receive a scholarship, in the amount of $10,000. This scholarship is awarded to a U.S. citizen, and is open to seniors in High School through graduate students studying at an accredited educational institution in the United States, who has definite plans to pursue a career in the STEM fields.

NEOHBA (Northeast Oregon Home Builders Association) - April 14, 2018

The NEOHBA is offering two $1,500.00 scholarships to help educate and train individuals in a "Profession" related to building industry. The scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of his/her potential to succeed. Applicants must currently be a senior enrolled in high school, enrolled as a college student or in a qualified apprenticeship program. the students must be a resident of Umatilla, Morrow, Union, Baker, or Wallowa County and have an interest in or intend to pursue a career in the Construction Profession. Old West Federal Credit Union Scholarship - Due March 23, 2020

Old West Federal Credit Union is happy to say that we will again be offering two (2) $1,000 scholarships from each of our branches and loan servicing offices. This means a total of $14,000 in scholarships are available to area students. Students in any of our 8 county charter area in Grant, Baker, Harney, Union, Umatilla, Wallowa, Morrow and Wheeler counties are encouraged to apply. This scholarship is open to any graduating High School senior that plans to attend any accredited post high school institution or vocational training. Preference will be given to students attending those institutions located within our Eastern Oregon charter area.

The Oregon Community Quarterback Scholarship is a renewable four-year collegiate scholarship program for Oregon high school seniors who are emerging leaders who plan to attend an Oregon University or trade school. Click here to download application.

Oregon Jaycee Foundation Scholarship - April 18, 2018

Up to $2,000 in scholarships will be awarded to several graduating Oregon high school seniors in the Class of 2018. The amount of the scholarship is a one-time grant and must be used in the year awarded. the final selection of recipient will be based on the following criteria: academic excellence, personal accomplishments, leadership qualities, and community service. Oregon Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship - Due: June 14, 2020

This organization awards up to six $3,000 scholarships to Oregon high school seniors graduating in the year 2018. Recipients are chosen on the basis of financial need, athletic accomplishment, academic achievement, and community involvement. Minimum academic requirements: GPA of 3.30, SAT of 1000 or ACT of 20. Oregon Wheat Foundation Scholarship - Due: February 1, 2020

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who are sons or daughters of members of the Oregon Wheat Growers League, or whose parents are employed by a member of the Oregon Wheat Growers League. The scholarship is also open to students who have worked summers for grower members. Scholarship winners will be selected on school and community involvement, scholastic performance, and an essay on the wheat industry.

The Pendleton Round-Up Foundation Scholarship - Due: March 31, 2018

The Pendleton Round-Up Association is offering scholarships to graduating seniors planning to attend college this fall, or students already attending college. The scholarships will be available to those students who have been involved in the Pendleton Round-Up, or whose families have been significantly involved with the Pendleton Round-Up. In addition, other considerations are financial need and scholastic achievement.

Swede and Frances Carlson Memorial Scholarship - Due: May 14, 2018

This scholarship is open to all Ione High School graduating seniors who are planning to continue their education. It is available for any accredited continuing education program. The goal of this scholarship is to help graduates obtaining a higher education. The scholarship will be based on need. Grade Point Average, class standing, popularity or involvement in sports will not be taken into consideration. It will be presented during the Graduation Ceremony of Ione High School. Tillamook County Creamery Association Excellence in Leadership - Due: March 16, 2020

Seniors who reside in Morrow County, or who are the dependent of a Tillamook employee, and who have a GPA of at least 3.0 are eligible to apply for these $2,000 grants. Umatilla-Morrow County Farm Bureau - Due: April 15, 2020

The Umatilla-Morrow County Farm Bureau is announcing the continuation of their scholarship program. UMCFB will award up to $3000.00 in scholarships to high school seniors in Umatilla and Morrow counties who will be attending any school of higher education, including: trade school, university or community college. Priority consideration will be given to those with an agricultural background, FFA or an intended major in an agriculture-related field. Click here to download application.
