It's the time of the year for reflections and being thankful for those around you. I want to give a huge shout out to the staff this past month. We have faced some staffing shortages and everyone has pitched in and gone above and beyond for our students everyday!
Thank you to everyone who attended our thanksgiving feast! We had a spectacular turnout and look forward to gathering again next year for another fabulous meal.

3 HOUR DELAY PLAN
Nov 28, 2023
Dear Families,
With winter quickly approaching we would like to share our inclement weather plan with you. Our goal is to provide the safest possible learning opportunities for our students and staff. Throughout the winter the district administration closely monitors weather and road conditions in our district and strives to inform families of changes in a timely manner. Typically, we try to notify family’s the night before of a late start or closure, but there are times when the weather changes overnight and requires an early morning change in school plans.
This year Ione School District will continue using a 3-hour delay for bad weather. With this later start on inclement weather days it will allow us more time to evaluate the weather and road conditions before students and staff are traveling for school. Buses will run their normal routes, only 3 hours later. On late start days’ schools will still have lunch available to students.
You can keep informed of school closures a variety of ways:
*School Messenger
*District website
*District Facebook page
*local news and radio stations
Queridas familias:

It’s hard to believe next week is the last of September already. Thank you to the staff and community who attended our Board meeting this week. I would like to welcome our new School Resource officer-Morrow County Deputy, Jacob Stutzman.
Just a reminder, in the mornings the students will go to breakfast or to the gym. Parents, if you are walking kids in, feel free to walk them to the gym or to breakfast. We ask parents if you want to chat with a teacher, set up a time with the teacher. Our preschool parents are still walking the little kids down for now. Thank you for your help. Also, a reminder for students who are riding their bike or scooter to school, we ask them to walk their bike or scooter in front of the building on the sidewalk for safety. We have a lot of foot traffic in the mornings and afternoons. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe.
Our bond project managers, Earl and Doug met with our construction team from Kirby Nagelhout on Monday for a preconstruction meeting. We will send out dates as soon as they are set for a ribbon cutting ceremony to start construction and timeline of estimated construction deadlines. As we all know, in construction things can be delayed for many reasons. We will make sure we keep everyone updated on progress and milestones. Looking forward to seeing this exciting project start!
It’s that time of year again, the weather is changing and getting colder. Please make sure students are prepared for the weather. If your family is in need of assistance with coats or anything else, please contact Mrs. Cydney McElligott or myself. We are happy to help anyway we can.

We have wrapped up our 2nd week of school. We unfortunately had to close the pool early due to maintenance issues. Today the elementary did have a guest STEAM (science, technology , engineering, art and math) teacher from the Sage center here visiting each classroom with a steam activity. Also, our middle school volleyball and football teams have started practice this week.
Mark your calendars for September 23, for our annual Ed Foundation dinner and auction. Doors open at 5pm, dinner at 6pm, and auction at 7pm. The students from Ione schools will be providing the table decorations, while the high school volleyball players will be your servers.
As superintendent, I hope to send out a letter at least twice a month on what is happening around school and any updates we have on new staff. Our FFA program is moving forward, we are working out the details and advisor, but the FFA leadership students have had a meeting and are preparing for upcoming events. If you are interested in being the FFA advisor, please contact myself or Mr. Rudolf for more information.

Hello Ione School District Students & Families,
Unfortunately, our school community has been experiencing a difficult and stressful time in the past few weeks.
The next School Board meeting is tonight, Tuesday, September 5th @ 5:30 pm.
While I cannot speak about that situation, I would like to communicate about something more important – the 23-24 school year.
Ione School’s Teachers, Instructional Aides and entire Staff have done an amazing job of starting the school year strong. They are focused on our most important priority – our students and their success. I encourage parents and families to talk to your students about the excitement of the new school year, what they are starting to learn in their new grade and getting to know their new teacher and classmates.
As always, if you have concerns about your child’s classroom, please talk to your child’s teacher. If you have other questions or concerns, please contact me.
Thank you for your support as we all work toward making this a positive, successful school year.
